“Never let fear stand between you and your dreams.” Dr. Glenn Singleman

BASEClimb began in 1991 when doctor and mountaineer; Glenn Singleman teamed up with country butcher and BASEjumper, Nic Feteris to climb and BASEjump the highest cliff in the world.

The pair successfully climbed and BASEjumped the Great Trango Tower in Pakistan and Glenn wrote, directed and produced the ground-breaking documentary ‘BASEClimb’. It was a pioneering story and footage of their BASEjump (which did not go exactly to plan) was deemed the most amazing every captured of the new sport.

The documentary went on to win 21 international awards and inspire a new generation of adventurers, including Glenn’s future wife, Heather.

Heather first saw the BASEClimb documentary in 1995 after hearing Glenn speak at a corporate conference. She was not inspired to jump from a mountain, but found the idea of confronting and overcoming more normal fears (public speaking, riding a roller coaster and learning to ski) liberating.

She congratulated Glenn on his achievements and his presentation and asked him if her company might represent him? He said yes, they became friends, and three years later married in a winter ceremony (complete with Heather skiing) in Thredbo, Australia.

A year after that Glenn learned there was a taller cliff than the Great Trango Tower.

Knowing that Glenn would put together an expedition to climb and jump it, Heather challenged him to take her with him, not just as his wife, but as his partner, to climb and to jump.

There was just one small problem with this plan. Heather was not an adventurer. She had never climbed or skydived, much less BASEjumped. She was not even athletic. Yet she believed Glenn’s philosophy that ‘anyone can achieve their dreams IF they can understand and overcome their FEARS’.

Glenn was initially reluctant but eventually put together a daunting training program that should have deterred her.

It took Heather six-years to master all the skills she needed. Along the way she endured many setbacks including a near fatal training accident. Even so, both she and her partnership with Glenn continued to get stronger.

On May 23rd, 2006 that strength and persistence prevailed, and they achieved their dream. Glenn and Heather successfully climbed Mt Meru in the Indian Himalaya and BASEjumped in wingsuits from a ledge at 6604 metres. It was a new world record, a world first for a woman and a husband and wife team.

BASEClimb 3 the documentary and Heather’s latest book ‘No Ceiling’, both due to go on sale in August 2009, tell the full story.
