WINGSUIT DISTANCE FLIGHT
Things are on track for The Wingsuit Distance Flight now scheduled for July 15 2008 taking off from Alice Springs in Australia's 'red centre'.

Premier current affairs program - 60 Minutes - will cover the flight. July has been chosen due to the prevalence and strength of the Jet Stream winds raging over central Australia. By launching into the Jet Stream Glenn and Heather will have a tailwind of around 230km per hour. When combined with their current average ground speed of 200km/hr this will give them a speed of around 430km/hr while they are in the Jet Stream. Glenn and Heather are delighted to welcome Australian Geographic as a sponsor. Glenn has had a close relationship with the organistation for many years, but this is the first time they have officially been part of an expedition. Heather is very excited to be writing a feature article about the project for AG's prestigious magazine. She will also take photographs for the article. To help her capture the best quality images possible, Canon Australia will assist with photography equipment. Heather and Glenn have been using Canon DSLRs for some time, and are thrilled to have Canon's assitance and advice.

Also assisting with safety equipment is BASEClimb 3 supporter Peter Davidson from EPIRBhire. Peter's equipment will ensure both the wingsuit pilots and balloon pilots have the best safety systems available.

CHRIS BONNINGTON QUOTE

Dr. Glenn Singleman and Heather Swan jointly hold the Guinness World Record for the highest BASEjump (exit altitude). Set on May 23rd 2006 from a 6672 metre Himalayan mountain, the amazing wingsuit jump was the result of six years unrelenting hard work and an unshakeable commitment to their goal. It was even more remarkable given that when they started the project Heather had never been climbing or skydiving. Today she is an accomplished mountaineer, BASEjumper and skydiver. In addition to being a professional adventurer with over 20 years experience Glenn is a practicing medical doctor and an award winning documentary film-maker. Glenn and Heather met at one of Glenn's corporate speaking presentations. Read more..
